Welcome to the BBC/Masterpiece Theatre review page. It must be clarified that not only will there be reviews of shows that aired on Masterpiece Theatre, but also other BBC or British productions that strike my fancy. I didn't want to limit myself!

Pride & Prejudice (1980 miniseries). This older version of P&P is often overshadowed by the Colin Firth 1995 miniseries (as well as the 2005 movie), but it's most certainly worth a look, and deserves to be judged on its own terms.
The 1980 vs. 1995 Pride & Prejudice miniseries: SMACKDOWN. Okay, so I'm being a little facetious—no need for a "smackdown"! Here you will read a side-by-side comparison of these two miniseries. (Hint: No one really "wins"—with the exception of you, the viewer, because you can enjoy two outstanding versions of P&P!)
North & South (2004 BBC miniseries). If you loved Pride & Prejudice, you must see this one. It's just as addictive as P&P (if not more so), and has a leading man who some say has "dethroned" Colin Firth as the ultimate romantic hero! (Note: Don't confuse this with the '80s Civil War miniseries—it is based on a completely different novel.)
Sparkhouse. A modernized retelling of Wuthering Heights is full of drama and romance and makes some interesting departures from the original Bronte novel. This 2002 BBC miniseries is finally being released on DVD, in no small part due to the presence of North & South star Richard Armitage.
Doctor Finlay. Engaging miniseries about a Scottish medical practice in post-WW II. Wonderful cast and dramatic (and often humorous) stories.
The Mallens. Based on the Catherine Cookson novels, this is an interesting (but often dark) miniseries that follows in the "bodice ripper" tradition.
