I took a whole lot of screencaps from North & South, many which would not fit onto the main North & South review page. Here are extra photos from this extraordinary 2004 BBC miniseries (not related to the Civil War miniseries made in the 1980s). Most pictures are of Margaret (Daniela Denby-Ashe) and Thornton (Richard Armitage), but there are several photos of supporting characters as well. All the pictures here are thumbnails; click on any of them to see a larger version.

Mr. Hale comforts his daughter.	A sad Margaret attends a funeral.	Mr. Thornton witnesses something that makes him feel very jealous.
Margaret and Henry Lennox, her lawyer.	Nicholas Higgins has a charming smile.	A brooding Thornton gazes longingly out of a window.

So that's what they really look like! I was shocked to see how different the two lead actors looked without their period costumes and hair, so I had to show the contrast here:
